不同海拔(85、550及850m)對於兩種省產柴胡之株高、葉重、根長、根徑及根重之影響很大,較高海拔(850m)對於柴胡葉重及根長之生育較為有利,較低海拔(85m)對株高、根徑及根重之生長促進效果較佳,惟其田間存活率較低。兩種柴胡於不同採收期(定植後3月、6月及10月)之性狀與收量之表現有很大差異,除了株高及根重外,皆以六月生者較佳。由兩種柴胡品種間性狀與產量之比較結果可知,臺農1號之株重、莖徑、莖重、葉寬及葉重之表現,較高氏柴胡為佳,高氏柴胡在分蘗數、根徑及根重之表現則較優於臺農1號。由成分分析之比較結果可知,不論品種、海拔、採收期與部位,柴胡皆含相當量之粗蛋白質、粗脂肪、粗纖維、灰分、可溶性無氮物、主要與微量礦物質及或多或少之維生素。兩種柴胡根部saikosaponin之平均總含量以高氏柴胡略高於臺農1號;不同海拔或採收期中,以六月生或較低海拔者較佳。
Experimental data of two Bupleurum spp. at three elevations showed that higher elevation (850m) was in favor of the development of leaf weight and root length. On the other hand, low elevation (85m) was beneficial for plant height, root diameter and root weight, however, its field survival rate was less than that of higher elevation. The field results also indicated that all agronomic characters and yield of the six-month old plants after transplanting was superior to those of the three- and ten-month old paints, except plant height and root weight. By comparing the measured agronomic characters and yield of the two Bupleurum spp., the performances of plant weight, stem diameter, stem weight, and leaf width and weight of Tainung No.1 were better than those of B. Kaoi. However, tiller number, root diameter and root weight of B. kaoi were better than those of Tainung No. 1.
According to the chemical analytical results, Bupleurum plants possessed high content of crude protein, fat, fiber, ash, nitrogen free extracted matter, macro and micro elements and some vitamins, no matter what the variety, element and harvesting date were. Analysis of saikosaponin content in the root revealed that B. Kaoi, plants cultivated at low elevation and plants harvested at six-month had a slight higher concentration of total saikosaponin than that of Tainung No. 1, plants cultivated at high elevation and plants harvested at three-and ten-month, respectively.
