利用台灣海洋大學所提供的NOAA AVHRR熱輻射影像,分析1994年5月到1995年4月期間,南海北部110°E至118°E、18°N至24°N,及香港附近海面溫度的時空變化特性。中國大陸東南沿海自10月到來年4月,海面存在著明顯的溫度梯度,其中2月至3月有一道低溫的冷水帶,緊貼著海岸。4、5兩月香港東北方水域溫度偏低,至夏季6到8月則顯得相當均勻,溫度梯度不顯著。在1月份,此海區常被雲層籠罩,尤其是近岸地區,因此可供分析的熱影像相當缺乏。綜觀這一整年,海區最高溫30℃出現在8月,最低溫14℃則發生在2月。近岸地區海面溫有明顯的季節性變化,外海區域則相對的較穩定且在空間分佈上較均勻。南海北部4月中旬存在一直徑約250公里的冷渦。海面溫度的變化主要發生在4至5月季風轉型期,海面溫度在一個月內從冬季寒冷的水溫加熱起來,但卻從9月到12月,約三個月的時間,海面溫度才逐漸降下來。香港水域海面溫度的變化與季風、氣溫、及海底地形間有相當的關連,其主要受到中國大陸的沿岸流、季風引起的湧昇與沈降流、珠江的沖淡水、以及海水的分層強度等因素影響而有時間與空間的變化。
The temporal and spatial variations of sea surface temperature (SST) of Hong Kong waters were studied with NOAA satellite AVHRR (Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer) data. They were provided by the National Taiwan Ocean University The study area is 110°E to 118°E and 24°N to 18°N of the South China Sea. The time spans twelve months from May 1994 to April 1995. These satellite images reveal significant spatial and temporal changes of SST in Hong Kong waters. There was a very distinct temperature gradient along the coast of China from October to April, and a very distinct cold water belt existed along the coast in February and March. Northeast of Hong Kong, the SST was lower in April and May, but become much more uniform from June to August. The cloud coverage was high in January, especially over the coastal areas. Therefore few good SST images were available for analysis. During the year, the highest SST (30℃) existed in August and the lowest SST (14℃) appeared in February. Inshore SST varied closely with the seasons, while the offshore SST was relatively stable and uniform. A big cyclonic cold eddy with a diameter of 250 km appeared in mid-April in the north of the South China Sea. Such SST changes are closely related to the solar radiation and the bathymetry. Their temporal variations are heavily dependent on the Asian monsoon, which changes from the cold northeasterly during the winter to the warm southwesterly during the summer. The major change of SST occurs from April to May. It takes one month to warm up the SST, but three months, from September to December, to cool down the SST. The influence on the SST of Hong Kong waters is a mixture of coastal currents, upwelling and downwelling, Pearl River runoff, and the stratification of surface water, and they vary seasonally and spatially.
